Mid-April in Pompano Beach is one of the best windows of the year. Spring break crowds have started thinning, the snowbird traffic is winding down, and the weather is sitting comfortably in that 75–85 sweet spot before South Florida flips on the summer humidity. Here’s how to make the most of a weekend.
Friday night
Catch the sunset from the Fisher Family Pier ($1 walk-on, fishing rentals available right at the pier shop) and grab dinner at one of the rooftop spots along Pompano Beach Boulevard — Pier 6 Rooftop has the best ocean view; Houston’s pulls in a more low-key crowd if you want to skip the music. If it’s the third Friday of the month, head over to Old Town’s Backyard Jam in the courtyard behind Bailey Contemporary Arts for live music starting at 6 PM.
Saturday morning
Get to the beach early. Free public parking turns over fast after 8 AM. Park near the pier, walk south for a quieter stretch of sand, and stop for breakfast at the small cafés along NE 2nd Street on the way back. Saturday is also when the Patricia Davis Community Garden hosts its weekly Green Market — fresh produce, herbs, baked goods and the occasional cooking demo.
Saturday afternoon
Pick one based on the family:
- With kids: Pompano Beach Aquatic Center (open swim, kiddie pool, dive boards) or the new playground at Mitchell/Moore Park
- With teens: Tradewinds Park has disc golf, hiking trails and a butterfly garden — underrated for a quick day trip
- With out-of-town guests: The new Jellyfish Museum is the easiest crowd-pleaser in the city right now
Saturday night
If you’re up for music, the Pompano Beach Amphitheater typically has a Friday or Saturday show on the calendar in April. UB40 ft. Ali Campbell brought reggae royalty to the venue this past Friday; SatchVai (Joe Satriani + Steve Vai) hits the stage on April 22.
For a quieter night, the rooftop dining strip stays lively until about 10 PM. After that, the strip near the pier is your best bet for late-night.
Sunday morning
Brunch and a beach walk. Briny Irish Pub does a solid Irish breakfast; Beach House for something more upscale. Walk it off on the sand, then head over to a Sunday matinee at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center if anything’s on the calendar.
Sunday afternoon
Reset for the week with a low-key visit to the Bailey Contemporary Arts gallery (free admission), then grab coffee at one of the indie cafés along NE 1st Street. By 4 PM you’ll have done about 80% of what makes Pompano great in 48 hours.
Save the other 20% for next weekend.
