The post-Valentine’s Sunday in Pompano Beach has a particular quality to it — slightly bleary from the night before, grateful for good weather, in no particular hurry.
The beach this morning is as close to empty as it gets in mid-February. The snowbird crowd slept in, the tourists are recovering, and the locals who know what February Sundays are worth have the shoreline largely to themselves until about 10 a.m. If you’ve been meaning to do the sunrise walk and haven’t gotten around to it, this is the morning.
Brunch options along Atlantic are running on a slower timeline today. The Valentine’s Saturday crowd has cleared out the reservation books, and Sunday has that post-holiday exhale that makes restaurant service better — the staff isn’t rushed, the kitchen is running clean.
For the afternoon, the WSOP Circuit at Harrah’s wrapped up last week, so the casino has returned to its regular pace. The poker room is always running. The beach corridor restaurants are operating at normal Sunday rhythm. The Intracoastal is calm.
Sometimes the best day in a beach city is the one right after the occasion. February 15 in Pompano Beach usually delivers on that. Get outside. It’s worth it.
