Shaw Davis at the Briny is the hometown show to circle this fall. On Wednesday, October 7, the Pompano Beach-raised guitarist plays the Briny Irish Pub at 3440 East Atlantic Boulevard from 8 to 11 p.m. The pub is billing it as a special event, and for good reason. Davis has spent years playing festival stages and opening for rock legends, so a night at a neighborhood bar is a rare chance to see him up close.

A Pompano Beach guitarist with a national resume
Shaw Davis is a singer and guitarist from Pompano Beach. He also fronts the power trio Shaw Davis & The Black Ties, which formed in 2016. His sound is loud, raw and a little psychedelic. It starts with 1960s and ’70s blues rock, then pulls in grunge, funk and hard rock. As a result, fans often compare his playing to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, two of his biggest influences.
The resume backs up the hype. In 2018, the band competed at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. That same year, its second album, Tales From the West, debuted at No. 20 on the Roots Music Report blues rock chart. It also earned three Independent Blues Music Award nominations. Then in 2021, the band released Red Sun Rebellion, produced by Grammy winner Paul Nelson, a longtime Johnny Winter collaborator.
Sharing stages with rock royalty
Over the years, Davis has opened for or played alongside Foghat, The Guess Who, Blackberry Smoke, Walter Trout, Samantha Fish and Blue Öyster Cult. In fact, the band once played more than 300 shows in about two years. Rock & Blues Muse also named them one of its “Top 50 Rock & Blues Artists You Must Hear” in 2019.
That kind of road time shows up on stage. Davis plays with a battered white Stratocaster and plenty of volume. Expect long solos, heavy riffs and songs that stretch out when the crowd is into it.
Why Shaw Davis at the Briny is worth the trip
The Briny has been a Pompano Beach institution since 1945. Today it is also one of the busiest live-music rooms in town, with bands on stage every week. The stage sits close to the bar, so there is no bad spot in the house. For that reason, a guitar player like Davis fits the room perfectly.
Plus, this is a true hometown gig. Davis grew up here, and local shows tend to bring out old friends, longtime fans and plenty of first-timers. If you have only heard about him, this is the easiest way to see what the buzz is about.
Want to make a night of it? Come early for dinner. The Briny is known for its fish and chips, and we have written about what to order at Briny Irish Pub. You can also read why the pub is still the heartbeat of Atlantic Boulevard.
