Old Town Untapped kicked off May with a bang Thursday night, and if you weren’t on NE 1st Street for it, you missed a good one.
Rubixx — South Florida’s premier 80s tribute act — took the stage and delivered exactly what the name promises: two hours of synth-heavy, shoulder-pad-era hits that had the crowd singing every word. Think Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, and a whole lot of hairspray energy packed into downtown Pompano Beach.
The monthly block party on NE 1 Street and N. Flagler Avenue is free, family-friendly, and has quietly become one of the better reasons to head downtown on a Thursday. The venue — an open stretch of street lined with local businesses and food vendors — fills up fast when the headliner is right.
May is shaping up to be a strong month for live music in the city, and Rubixx set the bar early. If you weren’t there, mark Old Town Untapped on your calendar for the first Thursday of next month. These shows are consistently worth it.
