Pompano Beach is launching a free Fishing Village Shuttle to the beach and the Fisher Family Pier, with service beginning Friday, October 2. The city announced the program on September 16.
There are two park-and-ride points. You can leave your car at City Hall, 100 W. Atlantic Blvd., or at the Old Town lot at NE 2nd Street and NE 2nd Avenue, then ride in. Both sit in the downtown core, which means the shuttle doubles as a way to pair a beach afternoon with something in Old Town without moving your car twice.
How the Fishing Village Shuttle works
Service runs Friday through Sunday and on holidays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is on-demand rather than fixed-route, so it comes when riders call for it instead of running to a timetable, and the city is putting three wheelchair-accessible vehicles into the program, seating five, six and fifteen passengers.
It costs nothing to ride, and parking at both park-and-ride locations is part of the arrangement. That matters for a beach that draws visitors from across Broward: a free ride from a free lot removes the calculation people make about whether a short beach visit is worth the parking hassle.
Why the city is doing it now
The shuttle is a direct response to lost beach parking. The city’s announcement ties the program to the closure of the W Hotel parking lot, which removed a meaningful chunk of the spaces people had been using to reach that stretch of sand. Anyone who has circled Pompano Beach Boulevard on a Saturday in season understands the arithmetic — taking cars out of that search entirely is cheaper than building spaces for them.
What the city has not published is how long the program will run, or whether weekday service could follow if weekend demand justifies it.
