Jimmy Buffett Day at the Briny is back, and this year it lands on a Friday. On September 4, the Briny Irish Pub at 3440 East Atlantic Boulevard will spend the whole day, from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m., honoring the man who wrote the soundtrack for every beach town in Florida. Wear your island attire. Flip-flops are basically required.
What’s on the menu
The specials suit a long afternoon. Cheeseburgers are $9.99 with the purchase of a beverage, which is about as close to a Cheeseburger in Paradise as Pompano gets. Frozen margaritas made with well tequila are $6 all day. Pair either with the ocean breeze coming across A1A, and the theme takes care of itself.
Live music and the Parrothead contest
A Jimmy Buffett cover band plays from 4 to 8 p.m., which covers the sunset hour perfectly. Expect the full catalog: “Margaritaville,” “Come Monday,” “Fins,” “A Pirate Looks at Forty” and the rest. The Briny’s stage sits close to the crowd, so singing along is not optional.
There is also a Parrothead Contest. The best-dressed fan wins a gift basket, so dig out the parrot hat, the grass skirt or the loudest Hawaiian shirt in the closet. More than 350 people have already marked themselves interested on the pub’s event page, so arrive early if you want a table.
Why Jimmy Buffett Day at the Briny works
Fans mark September 4 each year as Jimmy Buffett Day, the anniversary of his passing in 2023. Margaritaville properties across the country tie it to a day of service benefiting Singing for Change, the charity Buffett founded in 1995. Fans in Hollywood, Delray Beach and West Palm Beach all have their own parties this week.
The Briny, though, has a claim the resorts do not. It has stood across from the beach since 1945, it books live music every night of the week, and it has always been the sort of open-air, no-pretense bar that Buffett’s songs describe.
