Haitian Comfort Coming to Sample Road — New Grab-and-Go Concept Set to Open in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach is about to get a new lunchtime go-to, and the address is one nobody saw coming: a working gas station at 560 W Sample Road.

Owners Chris Destine and Betty Moreau have been quietly building out a Haitian and Caribbean grab-and-go concept inside the gas station’s open kitchen, and the plan is to open within the next few weeks. There’s no dine-in seating — the entire concept is built around quick, hot, takeaway plates served from a deli-style counter you walk up to from the convenience store side.

The menu

The kitchen is leaning into the comfort food side of Haitian cuisine that’s hard to find this far north in Broward:

Oxtail — slow-braised, served with rice and beans and a side of pikliz (Haitian spicy slaw)
Breakfast sandwiches — egg, plantain, Haitian sausage variations
Tacos — with a Caribbean spin (jerk chicken, fish with mango salsa)
Subs and hot sandwiches built for the lunch rush

Destine told us the goal is volume done well — hot food, quick turnaround, $10–15 plates. The kitchen is small but visible from the counter, and watching the crew work the line is part of the appeal.

Why this matters

Pompano Beach has a sizable Haitian-American community and a long-overdue need for accessible, no-fuss Haitian food along the Sample Road corridor. Most of the standout Haitian restaurants in Broward sit further south in Lauderhill or further north in West Palm; this fills a gap.

The gas station model isn’t a gimmick — it’s a smart play. Low rent, built-in foot traffic from the convenience store, and an existing kitchen footprint that gets the operation up and running faster than a standalone restaurant would. South Florida has seen a wave of these grab-and-go concepts inside gas stations and convenience stores over the past few years, and the operators that get it right tend to build cult followings fast.
